Issue Position: Jobs & Opportunity

Issue Position

Most San Antonio families are trying to make ends meet. Working towards good paying jobs with benefits is one of best ways we can help them.
Over 90% of the workers in San Antonio are employed by a small business. We're all in this together.
My Record:
Expanded City opportunities for Small, Minority, Women and Veteran-owned businesses.
Passed the broadest Local Preference policy in San Antonio history, giving an advantage and opportunity to local businesses bidding on City contracts.
Created a program that rescued several small businesses harmed by construction.
Brought hundreds of jobs to San Antonio.
Helped found Cafe Commerce, which assists small business owners and entrepreneurs.
Started the San Antonio Area Municipal Broadband Network, which will increase access to high-speed broadband for schools, hospitals and more.
Invested in successful neighborhood restaurant.
My Plan:
Create a true education pipeline so that every business can find the workforce it needs right here in San Antonio
Make sure that small businesses receive state incentives and subsidies.
Support Equal Pay for Equal Work legislation to ensure women are treated fairly in the workplace
Continue to support and grow San Antonio's tech and clean energy economies.
Sponsor events that introduce students to careers in new economies.
Enhance affordable childcare options for working families and single parents.
Fight for a minimum wage that allow workers to house and feed their families
Strengthen laws against wage-theft to protect hourly, tipped and small-contract workers.
Work to provide tax credits to Texas small businesses that hire Texas veterans.
